Accell Corporation
2-meter MHL Cable for Smartphones

By Kevin Nakano

Accell 2-meter MHL Cable for SmartphonesAccell's new Mobile High-Definition Link (MHL) cable connects your tablet, Smartphone or other MHL device to an HDTV, BD player, or A/V receiver featuring an MHL input. This fully compliant MHL cable transmits both audio and video, so users can view pictures, watch movies or listen to music on an MHL supported component. One advantage of using an MHL interface is that your connected device simultaneously gets powered over the connection while supporting up to 1080p resolution and 7:1 channel audio. In addition, you can mirror the display of your smartphone or tablet onto an HDTV and in some cases control your connected device by using the TV’s remote. This flexible cable features an MHL (USB Micro-B) connector on one side for your handheld device and an HDMI (Type A) on the other end that plugs into your MHL enabled component.

The cable is fully MHL compliant, which mean the cable is tested and certified by a MHL approved testing center. The MHL cable features a thin and lightweight design, reducing the connected weight for improved handling of the mobile device. Accell sent us their 2-meter version (A103C-007B) of the MHL cable, but is also available in a 3-meter length (A103C-010B). The cable is well made and appears to be quite sturdy, so it should stand the test of time with normal use.

Accell 2-meter MHL Cable for SmartphonesTesting
We tested the Accell MHL cable using our Samsung Galaxy Nexus (Model i515) with some high-end gear that has recently come our way for review. The newly released Oppo BDP-103 Blu-ray player has an MHL interface on the front panel, so it was a perfect product to test out the cable performance. The BD player was connected to an Anthem AVR 50V 3D A/V processor. The video was sent to an Anthem LTX-500v and projected onto a 100-inch Stewart Firehawk screen. This was a very nice system for testing an $18 cable.

Upon plugging in the Samsung Galaxy phone, video was immediately was displayed on the screen. While the video resolution was limited due to the Galaxy, it was still quite impressive to see. Audio played through the system without any issues and it was very easy to share content on the phone.

Conclusion
The Accell MHL Cable provides a simple way to connect your tablet, Smartphone or other MHL device to you A/V system. The MHL cable supports all MHL enabled display devices and AV receivers featuring an MHL enabled HDMI input. Accell provides a list of devices that support MHL here. The cost of this cable is so low that it is a no-brainer.
