Panamax
is well known for its advanced power management units that provide sophisticated
protection for A/V components. The company also offers a line of in-wall
solutions and has recently introduced the MIW XT product. There
is no doubt that flat panels have dramatically increased in popularity
and with that comes a need for a neat, clean, code compliant installation
that looks professional. The Panamax In-Wall products do just that
and depending on your needs, they have several options available. Best
of all, Panamax extends the Connected Equipment Policy to remote
equipment when used with other Panamax/Furman Power Management components.
The
MIW XT includes both the inlet and outlet plates for a smooth and
easy installation. The user will need to provide the in-wall power wire
(Romex type) since this can vary in length and gauge depending on the
run length. This is available at most hardware stores. The ultra-thin
profile of the MIW XT allows equipment to hang less than one inch
from the wall thanks to the specially designed plug. Both plates accommodate
the optional MIW Signal Line Modules available from Panamax/Furman.
These modules fit securely into the assembly making it easy to connect
standard analog cables. The inlet plate features a clip that keeps the
IEC plug from pulling out of the connector. We plugged our MIW XT
into a Panamax MAX® 7500-PRO Power Management unit.
Installation
Installation is simple and the product is compatible with most standard
electrical boxes. The most difficult part is running the wires in existing
homes where insulation and fire blocks sometimes get in the way when trying
to pull wires through the walls. Obviously, it is easiest to install before
the drywall is put in. The high quality design of the MIW XT system
includes wall plates (metal) and boxes that are CSA Certified for a code
compliant installation. Each outlet receptacle has built-in EMI/RFI noise
filtration. The product also includes a 3-year Product Warranty that ensures
that Panamax will repair or replace any defective product during this
period.
Conclusion
The Panamax MIW XT In-Wall system provides customers with an aesthetically
pleasing alternative to unsightly cabling exiting the flat panel display
hanging on the wall. In addition, the ultra-low profile design allows
displays to hang less than one inch from the wall adding to the elegance
of the newer breed of thinner models. For those looking to impress their
significant other with a clean installation, you will definitely score
points with this system. Panamax has engineered their In-Wall products
to work seamlessly with their other Panamax power management units and
extends its warranty to those products connected to them. With a modest
retail price of $149.95 (street price less than $100), the MIW XT
In-Wall system is a terrific bargain with a great benefit.
