Keeping plants alive in our house is no easy task. The problem with us is the infrequent watering of plants results in sheer neglect. Priced at a very reasonable $9.95, Thirsty Light is a digital plant moisture sensor that uses a low power blinking LED to alert the user when it is time to water a plant. The probe samples moisture every second and is designed to be left in the soil.

Several blinking patterns let the user know the state of the probe or the moisture it is detecting. The probe will not blink if adequate water is detected in the soil. As the soil begins to dry, the probe will blink slowly. As the soil dries more the blinking will increase from a slow to a medium to a fast blink. A double blink with a pause is an indication of complete dryness or standby mode. If the battery becomes drained, the probe will have a slow triple blink. A simple turn of the power switch keeps the battery from draining.

The Thirsty Light probe runs on two LR-44 lithium batteries which last up to 12 months depending on use. The probe is made from brass to resist corrosion. The Thirsty Light comes with a comprehensive and informative user and watering guide, and is backed by a 30-day manufacturer’s warranty.

Conclusion
Thirsty Light is a high tech way of determining the moisture level of your plants. For us, placing a probe into each of our plants reminds us when it is time for watering with the blinking light.
