Installation
of any new ceiling projector often requires the manufaturer of the projector to
provide a compatible mount, since every design usually has a unique mounting pattern.
As reviewers, we see a variety of different projectors and have to deal with this
problem each and every time we set one up. A new product from Chief Manufacturing
Incorporated called the Universal Projector Mount (UPA) solves this problem by
offering its customers a very flexible mounting pattern. Several configurations
are available with the UPA kit making it compatible with a wide variety of DLP
and LCD projectors currently on the market. We reviewed the UPA-1002, which comes
with an adjustable column ranging from 13" to 23". The upper mounting
plate can be angled anywhere between 0 and 90 degrees and the design supports
weights up to 50 pounds. The UPA-1002 has independent roll (±6°), pitch
(±30°) and yaw (360°), offering a wide variety of mounting angles.
A set of extension arms are included for large pattern mounting requirements.
In addition, an All-Points Security System, which includes a special set
of Allen wrenches and screws are included with the package to help prevent theft.
If
security is not an issue, the user will benefit from the quick-disconnect thumb
nuts that are used to hold the projector mount to the main column. In either case
the design makes it easy for the user to remove the projector from the installation
position by simply loosening the screws and twisting the mounting plate. The low-profile
design of the mounting plates are great for those needing the projector close
to the ceiling (no column). Leveling the projector is possible by using the adjustable
leveling feet located on each of the extending arms. Simply set the level and
tighten the lock nut and you're set. The UPA series mounts are available in two
colors, Black Wrinkle or Silver, to help match decor. A black nylon
cover included with the kit slips easily over the main column.
Conclusion
The
UPA-1002 is a very flexible design that should work with vitually all the current
LCD and DLP projector models. We had no problem using it with our InFocus ScreenPlay
7205 projector and the quick-disconnect feature came in very handy. This projector
weighs less than 10 pounds, so we didn't load the mount to anywhere near its full
capacity. We
were very impressed with the construction and flexibility this product had to
offer. Whether you are a do-it-yourselfer
or a professional, the UPA-1002
from Chief Manufacturing offers a universal solution for ceiling mounting. -
